Who can be a Child Care Health Consultant in Colorado?

A CCHC must:

  • Hold a current Colorado license as a registered nurse, pediatric nurse practitioner, family nurse practitioner, or physician 
  • Have knowledge and experience in maternal and child health.  

*Requirements are based on Colorado Child Care Facility Licensing Rules and Regulations 

What are the requirements to become a Child Care Health Consultant?
  • Complete the CCHC Qualifications in the Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System. 
  • Provide the early childhood program with documentation of their current medical/nursing license, biography, and training certificates 
  • Conduct and thoroughly document the monthly consultation and services specific to the program’s needs. 
Where can I take the required immunization and child abuse course?

The Department approved Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) immunization course can be found at Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System. 

Where can I complete the CCHC Qualifications Training?

The Provisional qualification and training requirements can be found on Colorado Shines Professional Development Information System. 

  • New CCHCs and those who have not completed the CCHC 101 course, start with the Provisional Qualification 
  • Existing CCHCs start with the Full Qualification

The new CCHC Qualification will:

  • Provide quicker, easier access to training for new consultants and CCHCs will be better trained. 
  • Streamline the processes for training vendor approvals. 
  • Create easier tracking of qualifications for licensing and providers. 
  • Now formalized with a standard process and registry, professionalize, and elevate the field.
