Description:  Responsible for the daily planning, management and supervision of the classroom and children.  Generally, is assisted in the classroom by an associate teacher.  Is responsible for ensuring that all parent and child concerns are appropriately addressed.  Is responsible for working as a team member in addressing classroom conflicts and implementing the 5 steps of conflict resolution to resolve differences. Is responsible for managing classroom staff and or volunteers.

Accountability: The ECT teacher reports to the Center Director or lead teacher

Minimum Qualifications: Level II Credential from Colorado Shines (PDIS),  AA in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or Elementary Education with emphasis in ECE or CDA with a minimum of 3 years experience in ECE.   Must have child CPR and First Aid and Universal Precautions or obtain within 30 days.  Must pass all State Required background checks and receive positive reference checks from previous employers or other professionals in the field. Previous accreditation experience is wanted but not required.

Minimum Skills needed: Extensive knowledge of Early Childhood Education, Child Growth and Development and Developmentally Appropriate Practice.  Can consistently demonstrate strong leadership, organization, management, supervisory and team building skills. Can demonstrate strong, effective communication skills.  Can consistently demonstrate a calm, cooperative and supportive demeanor.  Must have training and/or knowledge with peer mentoring or be able to obtain within6 months. Must have training in Adult learning or results driven training

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assists and supervises children during all activities.  Is responsive and helps children when social, academic or adjustment problems arise

Observes, documents and assess’ children’s progress and uses information to plan group and individual lessons and make decisions about next steps in projects

Insures daily team meetings take place and leads the meetings

Ensures that appearance, cleanliness and safe environment of classroom is appropriately maintained.

Completes all center/classroom paperwork, e.g., classroom portfolios, children’s portfolios, and insures subordinate staff are following through on their assigned work

Attends and participates in staff meetings, center events as requested.

Plans and manages parent meetings and parent involvement activities

Assist in preparation and implementation and organization of daily schedule, toy rotation, and classroom arrangement

Accepts temporary work assignments in the event regularly scheduled personnel are not available, e.g., may answer telephones at front desk, or may assist Supervisor with bookkeeping tasks.

Ensures that all classroom/outdoor equipment is in good working condition and is used/maintained properly

Directs activities of other staff in the classroom to insure that classroom functions in an orderly manner/uses mentoring as needed to guide and help staff grow

Communicates appropriate information to parents; maintains developmental progress assessments for children. Schedules and conducts three parent/teacher conferences per year per family

Meets with prospective families; parent /teacher orientation, communicates appropriately with potential new customers; assists Supervisor with center tours for prospective customers

Schedules field trips or speakers, pertaining to current projects

Maintains parent board and other classroom bulletin boards and parent communication files, plans, conducts and leads parent orientation meetings at the beginning of each semester

Ensures that classroom medication and allergy charts are posted and maintained. (note: Only Medical Administration trained personnel can give medication))

Assists Supervisor in other daily center duties, e.g., answering telephones and relaying appropriate information

Assists with planning and implementation of center-wide events

Prepares and presents staff training modules at in-service meetings
