Description of Job

This position is a part-time position (.75 FTE).  This position is expected to work approximately 30 hours per week.

The Early Childhood Education Specialist must have knowledge of young children’s typical and atypical development in regard to social, motor, communication, self-help, cognitive, and behavioral skills.  The person for this position must be capable of performing developmental assessments and summarizing the findings; assist in developing plans and implementing intervention services based on the outcomes of evaluation/assessment at AELC. Provides support to teachers and families with young children who are faced with academic and social-emotional challenges as well as seek out ways to capture individual learning styles of each child through guidance and support.  The ES provides daily services to consult mental health and family services.

The Education Specialist provides classroom lesson plan support and child development training.  In addition, the ES is responsible for educating staff about young children’s typical and atypical development, completes assessment to determine developmental levels of a child, works together with classroom teachers in order to provide an educational setting that provides an at risk child the opportunity to succeed and provide monthly meetings with classroom staff to prepare children for the move up process.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsEducation:
– BS or BA degree in special education with 15 credit hours in early childhood education or a closely related field.
– A Master’s degree in special education is preferred.

– 3 years experience working with young children in a special education setting.

Effective September 1, 2021, employees may be required to attest to and verify that they are fully vaccinated for COVID-19.  Upon Hire, new employees will have three (3) business days to provide attestation to their status with proof of vaccination.
